Individual Counseling

"My Mission in Life is not merely to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style"  ~Maya Angelou

In my work with individual adults and children I seek to understand with acceptance both the safely guarded parts and the more readily accessible parts that make you who you are in this moment.

From infancy into adulthood, relationships have a powerful impact on our sense of wellbeing in mind, body, and spirit. Maybe you were hurt in your family relationships as a child, or maybe you are struggling in current relationship to a loved one, or to people in your workplace. Either way, it is my job as your therapist to provide a safe enough space for you to explore these struggles in hopes to recover from them.

In my work, I strive to cultivate this opportunity for healing in relationship by being curious with you, and by attuning with an engaged presence and a mindful attention that can be rare outside of the protected space of psychotherapy.

While I am interested in helping clients uncover and heal the parts of themselves that have been squashed or carefully guarded as a result of fear, hurt or trauma, I also have a profound respect for the defenses that came to be. I trust the pace at which your heart and soul choose to reveal themselves to you and your process with me.

With compassionate curiosity, mindful inquiry, and a special attention towards the importance of authentic dialogue, I encourage individuals to reclaim their voice, empowerment, and a deeper sense of self worth with the goal of experiencing a fuller, richer, and happier life.

I draw from a broad range of modalities depending on clients' interests and needs.

“A wonderful living side by side can grow, if we succeed in loving the distance between us which makes it possible for each to see the other whole against the sky”  ~Rainer Maria Rilke

At the core of all relational conflict lies the deep longing to love, and be loved.

Whether you are looking for help moving through a difficult patch with one another, looking to deepen your bond with each other, or looking for facilitation and guidance in the painful process of separation, couples counseling is the right step.  I assist couples through all sorts situations, and specialize in helping couples better cope with fertility struggles.

Developing a strong and safe foundation in your intimate relationship is one of the most important steps to healing past and current wounds and feeling more secure in the world as individuals.

It is inevitable for our deepest fears and past hurts to rise to the surface with our intimate partner. All the old patterns established with the first most important people in our lives (parents, guardians, siblings, teachers) become alive again in romantic relationships. I see this as an opportunity to heal and navigate through a familiar experience differently, helping you to trust again.

Using attachment theory, arousal regulation techniques, and recent studies in neuroscience, I help couples, siblings, or members of parent-child dyads gain awareness of each other's attachment styles and vulnerabilities to help them better resolve conflict and reactivity.

In the context of family and child therapy, establishing a safe and strong foundation in your couple is also one of the most important steps in helping your children feel more at ease. As the adults in the household, children look up to you for guidance, both directly and indirectly. Since they are highly sensitive and intuitive, children can often involuntarily begin to carry their parents’ emotional struggle as their own. This is not your fault.  It is just the nature of your child’s deep connection to you that makes it so. However, it helps them greatly when you are willing to receive support so as to be better able to support your child.

As your couples therapist, I can help you both slow down a bit so that you may better understand the cycles and patterns that you are caught in and gain some agency in freeing yourselves from them.

I work with couples across all spectrums of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, and ability.

Your child's most direct pathway to healing is symbolic play

Children have feelings of all sorts. But because their brains are still developing, they don’t have the verbal or cognitive ability to explain their feelings, which can leave them frustrated, isolated, and often misunderstood.

However, they are experts at play and tell us most about themselves through this powerful medium of symbols and creativity. Using mindfulness, attunement, and different modalities in play therapy, I help children recover from various life struggles, traumas and sensitivities.

I know it pains you to see your child struggle the way he or she does. And I realize it can be vulnerable to seek outside support for your child’s recovery from these struggles.

While there is a lot of pressure to be a "perfect" parent and to do it independently these days, it’s a tall order. You shouldn’t have to figure it out all on your own.

I can help by providing your child with that concentrated attention that is difficult to sustain for extended periods of time as a busy parent. I am trained in identifying what children express through play that we adults would express in words.

I also work with parents by providing support through individual or couples work centered on personal, relational, or child-rearing challenges.  Please Inquire about Hand in Hand Parent Coaching.

“There’s no need for harshness. Instead of yelling, issuing an order, or scolding your child for bad behavior, simply put yourself between your child and the nutty thing he’s doing.” ~ Patty Wipfler

I offer coaching for parents using the Hand in Hand Parenting approach, a trauma-informed, neuroscience-based framework that helps you connect deeply with your child. Together, we explore practical tools for handling everyday parenting challenges, fostering emotional connection, and supporting your child’s healthy development. Coaching sessions provide guidance, support, and real-world strategies to help you parent with confidence, presence, and compassion.
